"Pieces of Her" to be shown at @ The Garage--Footloose presents In Between Pretty

"Pieces of Her"is inspired by the women of our past. 

This is Luisa Soto de Moreno. She is my inspiration.

Mary Alice Fry and Nitipat Ong Polchai are bringing together Footloose presents In Between Pretty, a showcase for dance-art pieces in the works. Dancer, choreographer, and friend Nitipat Ong Pholchai invited "Pieces of Her" to be shown at the event and I am overjoyed! "Pieces of Her," as some of you know, is a dance theater piece inspired by grandmothers. With the use of video projection -- myself and my dancer Natalie Marsh -- will express anecdotes and ask questions about the self by exploring the past. Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be sharing the space with a variety of amazing artists, some who I have never seen work before. It's going to be a fun night. Natalie Marsh and I will be meeting this Thursday to fulfill the new section of "Pieces of Her." We will be missing our beloved Daniella Aboody, and this gives us a constructive challenge to make slight modifications to the dance. Although it's been hard to think of this piece without Daniella's story, it has been really interesting to think of other possibilities where "Pieces of Her" can go. I'm a little nervous about doing a duet, but super excited to apply some Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals work into the mix. 

Come see a new section of "Pieces of Her" and the other wonderful pieces on September 4th or September 5th, 2013 at 8:00pm at The Garage in San Francisco. This is an intimate space with big art.

Footloose continues its monthly series at The Garage with In Between Pretty, contemporary dance and multimedia performances by eight choreographers. Young, fresh faces in the Bay Area dance scene come together to present an evening of original solos, duets and trios--two with video imagery, all with a personal and intimate focus.
