Reflections on performing in "Alicia in Arroyoland" presented by Arroyo Arts Collective and Teatro Arroyo

There was a young girl who lost her cat, got scolded by her overbearing older sister, and followed a White Rabbit down a rabbit hole which lead her to Arroyoland! I loved being Alicia's (Ava Miller) older sister and Bill the Lizard in this play. I think I got bit by the theater bug bad this year, folks. I was in a Lizard suit and everything for this part. Alicia in Arroyoland was truly a fun adventure for kids of all ages. The characters were all hilarious and adventurous. There was a Parrot, the Mad Hatter, Bill the Lizard, the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit, Chicken Boy, or the Chesier Cat. All fun folk helping the people of Highland Park find their landmarks and their inner strength.

I loved being in this play written by Ralph Waxman and directed by Guillermo Aviles-Rodriguez. The entire team of designers and my fellow actor pals were super talented and a joy to work with. I learned a lot in this process:

(1) Never underestimate the speed of a child when teasing them with a rainbow tail
(2) Never pull branches from a tree without it's permission (site specific stuff is hard y'alls)
(3) Always keep smiling, even if your swimming trunks are sliding off your body suit

For those of you who were able to catch the show, thank you! For those of you interested in more shows like this - check out Arroyo Arts Collective website.
